Ingredients

For the beef patties

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Use high-quality ground beef for juiciness.
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic Freshly minced for better flavor.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances natural beef flavors.
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper Freshly cracked for a hint of spice.
  • 2 tbsp A1 Sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • 2 tbsp Ketchup Balances savory notes with sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce Essential for a rich gravy.
  • 1/2 cup Seasoned Bread Crumbs Binds the patties.
  • 1 large Egg Serves as a binder.
  • 2 tbsp Oil For searing the patties.

For the gravy

  • 2 tbsp Butter Adds creaminess to the gravy.
  • 3 tbsp All-Purpose Flour Thickens the gravy.
  • 2 cups Beef Broth Base of the gravy.
  • 1 medium Sliced Onion Sautéed until golden for sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, salt, pepper, A1 sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned bread crumbs, and egg. Mix gently until just combined.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, about ¾ inch thick.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for about 3 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Remove the patties and drain excess grease, leaving some in the pan for flavor.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and melt butter in the skillet. Sauté the sliced onions until golden, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over the onions, stirring for 2 minutes. Gradually add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, cover, and let them simmer in the gravy for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Uncover and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes to thicken the gravy to your liking.

Serving

  • Serve the patties warm, ladling the gravy over them with your choice of sides.

Notes

Consider adding chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for extra flavor. Allowing the patties to form a crust while searing enhances flavor and texture. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
