  • 2 cups small pasta shells Any small pasta shape works well.
  • 4 cups beef broth Opt for low-sodium broth.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Half-and-half can be used as a substitute.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Blend of cheeses or cheddar works well.
  • 1 small onion, diced Provides an aromatic base.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds a fragrant kick.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Fresh herbs elevate the dish.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust accordingly.
  • to taste Fresh parsley for garnish Optional, adds freshness.

Preparation

  • In a large pot over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Sauté diced onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes, then add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
  • Introduce ground beef, season with salt and pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add small pasta shells and stir to combine.
  • Pour in beef broth and Italian seasoning, bringing to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for 10-12 minutes until pasta shells are tender.
  • Pour in heavy cream and half of the shredded cheese, stirring until well-combined and cheese has melted.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Add more broth or cream if the mixture is too thick.
  • Spoon into bowls, topping with remaining cheese and a sprinkle of fresh parsley.

Notes

To make ahead, prep beef and aromatics in advance. Leftovers can be refreshed with extra broth or cream when reheating. Including vegetables can enhance flavor and nutrition.
