  • 4 medium Russet potatoes High starch content for crispy texture.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For crispiness.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Adds a touch of heat.
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley or cilantro For garnish.
  • 1 cup nacho cheese sauce For dipping.

Preparation

  • Wash and scrub the Russet potatoes thoroughly; leave the skin on.
  • Slice the potatoes into even sticks about a half inch thick.
  • Soak the cut fries in a bowl of cold water with ice cubes for at least 30 minutes.
  • After soaking, drain and pat the fries dry.
  • Mix garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and ground cumin in a small bowl.
  • Toss the dried potatoes in vegetable oil, then coat them with the spice blend.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Cooking

  • Spread the fries in a single layer on the baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Once golden brown and crispy, transfer the fries to a serving platter and sprinkle with parsley or cilantro.

Serving

  • Serve with warm nacho cheese sauce for dipping.

Notes

For utmost crispiness, make sure to dry the fries thoroughly before tossing them in oil and spices. Using a high oven temperature is essential. Consider adding cornstarch for extra crunch. Experiment with different spices or cheese sauces.
