  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Aromatic and warm
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg Fragrant with holiday cheer

For the Spiked Cranberry Sauce

  • 1 1/2 cups cranberries (fresh or frozen) Tangy and juicy
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar To sweeten the sauce
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice Bright and zesty
  • 2 tablespoons water To help the berries burst
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest Fragrant and flavorful
  • 1 pinch salt To enhance flavors
  • 1 tablespoon orange liqueur (optional) For added warmth in the sauce

Instructions

Preparation of Panna Cotta

  • Pour 1 cup of whole milk into a small bowl and sprinkle 2 1/2 teaspoons of unflavored gelatin powder over the top. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup of eggnog, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. Warm gently over low heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat once the sugar is dissolved and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved. Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg.
  • Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a measuring cup. Divide evenly into six ramekins or glasses.
  • Cool at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before refrigerating. Chill for at least 4 hours, or until set.

Preparation of Spiked Cranberry Sauce

  • In a saucepan, combine 1 1/2 cups of cranberries with 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup orange juice, 2 tablespoons water, 1 tablespoon orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
  • Simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens, about 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of orange liqueur if desired. Let cool to room temperature before chilling.

Serving the Dessert

  • To serve, dip the ramekins briefly in warm water to loosen them, then invert onto plates.
  • Top with spiked cranberry sauce and garnish with extra orange zest or sugared cranberries if desired.

Notes

Make sure to let the gelatin bloom properly and strain the mixture to ensure a silky-smooth texture. You can adjust the sweetness of the cranberry sauce to your liking.
