  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil Infuses a nutty, aromatic layer of flavor.
  • 1/3 cup Honey Provides sticky sweetness that ties the whole dish together.
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar Adds tangy brightness, complementing the flavors.
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, grated Introduces a zesty warmth that elevates every bite.
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Offers an aromatic punch.
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds, toasted Adds a crunchy texture and nutty flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Used for coating the chicken.
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour Provides texture and support to the dish.
  • 2 pieces Green onions, diced For garnishing.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Essential seasoning to harmonize the flavors.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Add the broccoli florets and a pinch of salt, steaming them for just six minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the low sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, rice vinegar, freshly grated ginger, minced garlic, sesame seeds, and cornstarch. Stir until well blended and set aside.
  • In a zip-top bag, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch, all-purpose flour, salt, and pepper. Shake gently to coat each piece evenly.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Carefully add the coated chicken pieces and sear until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the seared chicken and reduce the heat. Allow it to simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • If there's room in the skillet, toss in the steamed broccoli and mix well to coat the broccoli in the sauce.

Serving

  • Garnish with diced green onions and serve hot.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the chicken in soy sauce and honey for at least 30 minutes before coating. You can substitute broccoli with other vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas. For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
