For the cream filling

  • 1 cup whole milk Makes the filling luxuriously smooth.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Provides aromatic warmth.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Thickens the filling.
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios For garnish, adds color and nutty flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter with the kunafa dough until evenly coated.
  • Press portions of the dough into muffin tins to form cups, ensuring they are evenly shaped.

Baking

  • Bake the kunafa cups for about 15-20 minutes until they reach a golden brown hue.

Filling

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, sugar, flour, and vanilla. Stir continuously until thickened.
  • Once the kunafa cups are slightly cooled, fill each with the cream mixture generously.

Garnishing

  • Top each cream puff with chopped pistachios and serve warm or chilled.

Notes

For an added floral note, try adding rose water to the cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can reheat them in the oven for a few minutes.
