  • 12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks Fresh and creamy cheese is the star of the show.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Provides a great base for the breading.
  • 2 large eggs, beaten Acts as a binding agent for the breadcrumbs.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Italian or Panko works best for crunch!
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder Adds a subtle depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp paprika Offers a hint of smokiness and color.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for enhancing the overall flavors.
  • as needed cup vegetable oil for frying Enough to cover the bottom of the pan and ensure even frying.

Preparation

  • Freeze the mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes to help maintain their shape during frying.
  • Set up your breading station with flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the last.
  • Coat each stick in flour, dip in the egg mixture, and lastly coat with breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere.

Frying

  • Heat enough vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks at a time, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Using a slotted spoon, remove the sticks and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For extra crunch, double bread the sticks. Experiment with different spices in your breadcrumb mixture or serve with various dipping sauces like marinara or spicy aioli.
