For the sticks

  • 12 oz mozzarella cheese sticks Creamy mozzarella for a gooey center
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Provides a sturdy base
  • 2 large eggs Beaten for richness
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Italian or Panko for crispy texture
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • vegetable oil For frying

Preparation

  • Freeze the mozzarella sticks for about 30 minutes to help maintain their shape during frying.
  • Set up your breading station with flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in the last.

Breading and Frying

  • Coat each stick in flour, dip in the egg mixture, and lastly coat with breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to adhere.
  • Heat enough vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks at a time, frying for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  • Using a slotted spoon, remove the sticks and drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

To elevate your mozzarella sticks, consider adding cayenne pepper to your breadcrumb mixture for a kick. Ensure your oil is hot enough to avoid greasy sticks. For more flavor, experiment with herbs like oregano or thyme. Best served with marinara or ranch dressing.
