Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joe Filling

  • 3/4 cup ketchup Provides sweetness and moisture.

  • 1/2 cup water To help cook the mixture.

For Topping

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Melts well for a gooey topping.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Adds sharpness to the flavor.
  • to taste Chopped fresh parsley For garnish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice the loaf of Italian bread lengthwise into two equal halves, laying both halves cut side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, combine softened butter and garlic salt. Stir until well blended.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread.

Cooking

  • In a skillet over medium heat, add ground beef and diced yellow onion. Cook until the beef is no longer pink, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  • Stir in garlic powder, yellow mustard, ketchup, kosher salt, black pepper, and water into the beef mixture. Cook until thickened.
  • Divide the sloppy joe mixture evenly across the two halves of the garlic bread.
  • Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  • Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

Serving

  • Let cool momentarily, cut into pieces, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra punch of flavor, consider adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the beef mixture. Substitute ground beef with chopped mushrooms or lentils for a vegetarian option.
